  Post-Production

Codex is just as much at home in the post-production environment as it is on location, or in a studio. Codex's unique Virtual File System allows all captured material to be accessed via a conventional network in a number of different resolutions and file formats (including industry-standards such as DPX, AVI, Jpeg, QuickTime and WAV) all of which can be generated on-the-fly, on-demand without the need for intermediate conversion or to alter the original 'digital negative'.

This means that the editing, VFX and audio-post departments can all 'see' Codex-captured material simultaneously in whichever format they require and at any number of proxy resolutions, ensuring a fast, efficient workflow.

Advantages of Codex and the Virtual File System

  • Immediate Review - The director can check any of the takes for performance, at high-quality on a monitor or computer, immediately after shooting, or at any time during the day.

  • Uncompressed Pictures - The cinematographer can immediately examine each shot at full uncompressed resolution, for total confidence.

  • Temp Editing - The editor can be viewing and cutting an offline version even as shooting continues, giving feedback as to whether more shot coverage is necessary, potentially saving an enormous amount of time. With Codex's Virtual FIle System, the editor does not even need to be on-set, as they can view the shots remotely, via Codex's 100% secure high-speed network.

  • VFX and CGI - The VFX artist can do temp compositing and effects - using proxy or full-resolution images if necessary - to check that the elements are going to work together and solving any potential problems during the filming. The colourist could even remotely access material via the Virtual File System during shooting and send graded examples back to the cinematographer.

  • Enhanced Continuity - Using a secure network connection, continuity and script supervisors can review any shot at any time on their laptops, anywhere on set, without even having to attach a cable.

  • Screening of 'dailies' - All recorded material can be screened on-set at uncompressed 4:4:4 HD.
