Codex + Canon Cinema EOS C500 - From Camera to Post
Codex has been working closely with Canon during the development of the Canon Cinema EOS C500 camera and are excited to announce that the Codex Onboard S recorder supports all outboard recording modes on the C500, up to and including 120FPS at 4K. All with only one recorder and one capture drive.
The C500 has a Super 35 equivalent 8.85 megapixel CMOS sensor, with an effective pixel resolution of 4096 x 2160 (total pixel resolution of 4206 x 2340). The 10-bit RAW image stream is sent over a single 3G-SDI output up to 30fps. For 50 to 120fps, dual link 3G-SDI outputs are required. The Codex Onboard S can support all these modes, while the Codex Onboard M can support 4K Canon Cinema RAW at up to 30FPS.

And Codex is not just a recorder - it's an entire workflow to get your images from camera to post. Use a Codex Vault or a Codex Transfer Station to QC your camera originals, manage your metadata, archive your data and produce dailies. And having been the leader in RAW recording for years, it should be obvious that with Codex, "It just works".
One of the first cinematographers to use the C500/Codex combination on a production was Shane Hurlbut, ASC. And it was quite an extreme test of both camera and recorder - base jumping off a mountain for a sequence in a major motion picture. After a successful shoot, Shane said...
"Taking my images to extremes is what inspires me as a cinematographer and the last time I used the Codex S recorder it was traveling at 160mph at 12,000 feet falling from the skies in the Swiss Alps. Compact, lightweight, and obviously built like a brick house."

Canon EOS C500 - Captured on Codex
Codex was fortunate enough to have early access to Canon's new EOS C500 4K camera. We took the camera on a trip across Europe and the United States, shooting in London, Berlin, Miami and Los Angeles with cinematographers Tony Pierce Roberts, Martin Ruhe and Ben Seresin. The 4K RAW files were recorded on a Codex Onboard recorder. The final piece was graded in London by colorist Greg Fisher, who graded "Hugo" for Martin Scorsese and Bob Richardson.
